Matthew Donnell, a native of Mt. Airy, N.C., began ballet training under his mother's instruction. Mr. Donnell trained for eight years at the North Carolina School of the Arts on full scholarship and for one year at Pennsylvania Ballet School. He has danced in Three Courtesies, Donizetti Variations, Agon, Duets and The Nutcracker. Mr. Donnell’s most memorable roles include Merce Cunningham’s solo Totem Ancestor, Hilarion in Giselle, and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker. He was in the cast of The Lost Colony, The Wizard of Oz, and as a guest with the MidWest Youth Ballet in the Young Tanzsommer Festivalin Europe. This is Mr. Donnel's sixth season with Kansas City Ballet and as always dedicates this year of performances in loving memory of his teacher and friend Duncan Noble.
