For 64 years, Miller Marley School of Dance and Voice has been a cornerstone of performing arts education in Kansas City, inspiring generations of dancers and performers under the extraordinary leadership of Shirley Marley.
A Kansas City tap icon, Shirley began her journey at the Virginia Loncar School of Dance, quickly advancing from student to assistant to instructor. In the early 1960s, she inherited the school and transformed it into one of the Midwest's premier performing arts institutions. Her artistry was shaped by legendary instructors, including Luigi, Gus Giordano, Gregory Hines, and Savion Glover.
Shirley's distinguished career includes 19 years directing the Kansas City Chiefettes, nine years choreographing for Starlight Theatre, and three Demmi Awards for Outstanding Choreography. Her influence extends to Broadway, where performers have proudly credited her as a master teacher and mentor.
Today, Miller Marley continues her remarkable legacy, serving over 600 students from beginners to pre-professionals. Offering exceptional instruction in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, voice, and acting, the school is home to two ballet companies, two competition teams, four musical theatre performing companies, and the Disney Troupe.
More than a dance studio, Miller Marley is a vibrant artistic community where passion takes center stage, confidence finds its voice, and dreams are given wings.
